The 55-year-old ran a publishing house in Hong Kong and was one of five men who disappeared in late 2015, in a string of incidents known as the Causeway Bay Books disappearances. He later reappeared and was arrested by the Chinese authorities who stated that he had broken Chinese law. Minhai was sentenced by a court in the eastern Chinese city of Ningbo.
