President Frank-Walter Steinmeier called upon political parties to ‘take responsibility’ following the collapse of the 'Jamaica' coalition negotiations, as he spoke in Berlin on Monday. «This is the moment when all involved should pause again and reconsider their attitude,» said Steinmeier as he spoke of the ‘unprecedented situation’, adding, «Those who apply for political responsibility in... Еще elections must not shirk when they hold it in their hands.” He went on to say, «In our European neighbourhood it would be great misunderstanding and concern if, in the largest and economically strongest country in Europe, the political forces cannot take responsibility.» Furthermore, Steinmeier announced that he will meet leaders of all parties in the following days, as well as the President of the Bundestag and the President of the Federal Council. On Sunday, the Free Democratic Party (FDP) announced that it would pull out from the ‘Jamaica’ coalition negotiations. FDP leader Christian Lindner claimed that there was no «basis of trust» between German Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the Christian Social Union (CSU) and the Greens. The move sees Merkel's potential coalition collapse which may result in a snap election.
