A pro invitational tennis tournament began in Berlin on Monday where fans arrived to watch the action.
With about 800 spectators attending the bett1 Aces tournament, the organisers were taking measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, using body temperature checks and a walk-through disinfection area. The visitors were obligated to wear face masks until they reached their seats.
At a news conference ahead of the tennis tournament, Austria's Dominic Thiem, who is ranked third in the world, spoke about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the sport of tennis.
«There are players who have been affected more than me. I had 6-7 unbelievable years on the tour and to have a break now in a good phase is of course bitter. There are people who have been affected worse than me, and generally, we have to remember, that other things are more important than sport right now,» he stated.
