Chairman of the Social-Democratic party (SPD) Martin Schulz met with Germany's Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Berlin's Bellevue palace, Thursday, following the collapse of the 'Jamaica' coalition talks. During the talks with Schulz, Steinmeier are set to discuss possible ways of overcoming the breakdown and forming a government. Following the election results last Septemeber, Schulz... Еще had stated that SPD would not form the ruling coalition with CDU, but after the Free Democrats party refused to form so-called 'Jamaica' coalition together with Green party, CDU and SPD might return to the previous 'Grand Coalition'. The President is said to have the constitutional responsibility to broker a compromise in order to ensure the proper functioning of German democracy. On Tuesday Steinmeier met with the party leaders of the Greens and FDP to discuss their reasons for pulling out of the 'Jamaica' coalition negotiations. On Wednesday he had a meeting with the Chairman of the Christian Social Union (CSU), Horst Seehofer.
