German Health Minister Jens Spahn followed contact tracing rules correctly after visiting a restaurant three days before his positive test result according to a spokesperson from the ministry, at a press conference in Berlin on Wednesday.
Hanno Kautz, Federal Ministry of Health Spokesperson addressed accusations from someone who dined in the same restaurant as Spahn just before his diagnosis with COVID-19. He commented that «infection could have been completely separate» and that the minister, once diagnosed, «went above and beyond all of the required duties that apply in Berlin.»
Spokespersons from the Foreign and Defence ministries also addressed the recent US announcement of troop withdrawals from Afghanistan and Iraq.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Cristofer Burger asserted that «essential basis for this peace process has always been military withdrawal under certain conditions» when probed on the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan as early as next April.
«Our most serious concern is that a mandated withdrawal could endanger the negotiation process, risking a vacuum of security, putting the progress achieved in Afghanistan on the line,» said Burger.
Ministry of Defence Deputy Spokesperson, Colonel Arne Collatz-Johannsen underlined this, adding that he and other NATO partners appreciated the importance of US forces as «necessary to uphold the entire operation» and that talks with the US government are «framed as such.»
