The second and final day of the annual CDU party convention took place in Leipzig, Saturday, with a traditional greeting from the sister party CSU and its leader Markus Soeder. Soeder discussed the AfD among other topics such as the vote on primary elections regarding the candidate for chancellor; and the importance of a united front of CDU and CSU for upcoming challenges.
«I consciously say that... Еще the AfD is an enemy — clearly,» said Soeder.»
The party also voted on 500 bills, among them a proposal concerning a possible ban on Huawei operating in the German 5G market. The party decided to forward this issue to the German Bundestag for further consideration.
Another new party proposal targeted the upcoming candidacy for chancellor, where delegates suggested a primary election process to include the base of the party. However, the proposal was dismissed by a 79 percent majority.
CDU party leader Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer emphasised in her final speech, that the CDU knows the future it wants for Germany and has seen a pathway to get there. Kramp-Karrenbauer also said that the party convention has show her that the CDU is the «strong centre» of Germany.
