Germany: Seehofer introduces new CSU team after SPD confirms 'Gro-Ko'

SCRIPT Germany's Christian Social Union (CSU) Leader Horst Seehofer announced his resignation as Bavarian Ministerpresident at the CSU headquarters in Munich on Monday, a day after the Social Democratic Party (SPD) voted to approve the 'Grand Coalition' government with Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the CSU. Seehofer also announced three Ministerial positions occupied by the CSU, with Andreas Scheuer taking over as Minister of Transportation and Digital Infrastructure, Gerd Mueller taking over as Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, as well as Dorothee Baer as State Minister for Digital Affairs. All positions are expected to be confirmed on March 14. Of more than 450,000 SPD members, 66 percent supported a renewal of Germany's grand coalition, while only 34 percent were against it. Head of Voting Commission for the SPD Dietmar Nietan commented today saw a larger majority in favour of the agreement than the last time they voted on a coalition with the CDU, four years ago.
