German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer spoke about the recent data hack of over 1.000 German politicians, Members of the Bundestag and journalists at a press conference in Berlin on Tuesday.
Seehofer confirmed the arrest of a suspect, saying that «a 20-year-old has been determined to be a suspect of the data robbery. He gave a thorough confession. The temporary detainment of the suspect has... Еще been released by the prosecutor due to the confession.»
Seehofer spoke of the need for new measures to be put in place to prevent such crimes from occurring in the future, and also commented on the possible influence of the upcoming European election.
«I don't want to evoke or predict anything but we have to be prepared to avoid influences on this election or to discover them early,» Seehofer said.
Seehofer was accompanied by the President of the Federal Criminal Police Office Holger Muench and the President of the Federal Agency for Security within the Information Technology Arne Schoenbohm.
The data breach — one of the largest ever in German history — saw sensitive data from hundreds of politicians and public figures published in December, but only came to light on Thursday.
