Germany: Schulz buoyed by mandate as GroKo talks continue in Berlin

Social Democratic Party (SPD) leader Martin Schulz stressed his party’s intention to form a government, while speaking ahead of preparatory coalition talks at Konrad-Adenauer-Haus in Berlin on Monday. “We, as the Social Democratic Party, go into these talks with the aim to give Germany a new government that not only improves the lives of the people in our own country but also satisfies the... He noted that his meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel and CSU leader Horst Seehofer «serves to make the next step, following our party conference, possible.» On Sunday, the SPD voted in favour of coalition talks with Merkel's Christian Democratic Union (CDU).
