Germany: Schulz announces exploratory talks to form grand coalition

The leader of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) Martin Schulz announced his party's decision to open preliminary talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union (CDU) to form a stable government coalition, speaking from the party's headquarters in Berlin on Friday. Schulz proposed «exploratory talks» with the CDU and CSU parties on how the SPD could contribute to forming... Еще «a stable-as-possible government.» Pointing out his desire for a «different government culture» in Germany, Schulz said there would be «no continuation of this form of grand coalition how we used to know it.» Schulz's opening to talks with Merkel's CDU came in wake of the collapse of the so-called 'Jamaica coalition' talks between CDU, the Greens and the FDP.
