Germany: Russia's G8 exlusion 'unavoidable', comeback 'unacceptable' — Merkel

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that restoring Russia to the G8, now G7, is impossible due to a 'flagrant breach' of international law that Russia committed by reunifiying with Crimea, while facing questions in German Parliament in Berlin on Wednesday. «The exclusion of Russia from the format has been unavoidable,» Merkel said. «Russia being part of a format that is explicitly oriented... Еще towards the international law and human rights is unacceptable.» The G8 format which included Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, United Kingdom and the United States was reformed into the G7 in 2014 when Russia was excluded from the Group following its reunification with the Crimean peninsula.
