Germany: Refugees labelled as treasure hunters at first AfD election campaign meeting

The right-wing party Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD) held a meeting in Hiltrup, Munster, Tuesday evening, to mark the start of the party's election campaign. A crowd gathered outside to protest the event. AfD spokesperson Jorg Meuthen gave a speech at the event, particularly focussing on Germany's refugee crisis. He disputed the term «refugee», saying that the immigrants coming to Germany... Еще were not so much «protection seekers» as «treasure hunters». He went on to say that the crisis had nothing to do with refugees but rather with «gaga politicians» and denied that the influx of people into Germany had been decreasing as widely believed, but stated that the number of refugees was still rising. Protesters gathered outside holding banners reading «no room for Nazis» and «fuck AfD» as members of the party arrived for the meeting in the Hiltrup neighbourhood of Munster in North Rhine-Westphalia.
