Germany: Police water cannons used in Brandenburg to prevent wildfires

Police water canons were used to spray water on trees and surfaces along motorways in Potsdam, in the region of Brandenburg on Friday, in a bid to prevent potential wildfires. This follows large-scale forest fires in the same region in the previous days, which raged within sight of the A9 and A10 motorways, forcing both to close. The area affected by the fire is said to cover between 40 to 50... Еще hectares. Due to the persistent summer heat, the forest fire danger in Brandenburg is currently extremely high. The discovery of world war II-era ammunition has complicated the efforts to control the forest fire, with reports that some ammunition has already been detonated by the wildfire. Authorities declared the highest level of alert in the state, which is covered by extensive pine forests.
