Hundreds of police officers continued the search for an armed 31-year-old suspect in Oppenau on Wednesday, four days after the man is believed to have disarmed four police officers. The suspect has been dubbed the «Black Forest Rambo» and has been on the run ever since.
Armed police could be seen searching the town and the area next to the hut where the man identified as Yves R. used to live. About 200 police officers, including a special unit of the Baden-Wuerttemberg police, a dog team and helicopters were involved in what is now the fourth day of the manhunt.
The suspect is still at large and police believe he is armed with a bow and arrow, a knife and a pistol and wearing combat gear. Police said the man, who is on probation, is considered dangerous and should know the steep forest terrain in the Ortenau district very well.
According to reports, police were called to a forest hut in Oppenau after a local resident reported the sighting of a suspicious man wearing combat gear on Sunday morning. After two police vehicles arrived on the scene, the man initially cooperated, but suddenly threatened and disarmed four officers and took their weapons. The four stolen firearms could hold up to 64 bullets, reports say.
