Munster police officers killed a hostage-taker at the correctional facility (JVA) in the city centre, on Friday, after almost a three-hour-long hostage situation with a woman being freed unharmed.
«The police were called around 6:30 am. We have immediately cordoned off a huge area around the scene as well as deployed police and special forces in the building,» said Frank Rentmeister, spokesperson for the local police department.
The hostage-taker was an inmate at the same correctional facility where the hostage-taking incident took place. As the perpetrator threatened the hostage, the police officers were forced to use firearms and the inmate died from his injuries at the scene.
The police have already launched the investigation into the incident. The motives behind the crime are unclear as the inmate reportedly had only a few months remaining on his sentence according to local media.
