Germany: Over 5 million diesel cars to be fitted with cleaner software — Transport Minister

Major German car manufacturers Volkswagen, Daimler and BMW committed to upgrading over 5 million diesel cars, during an emergency ‘Diesel Summit’, in Berlin, on Wednesday. During the press conference, Federal Minister for Transport Alexander Dobrindt discussed the «urgent necessity that we take measures within cities in order to reduce NOx and stay within the limits.» He said, «5.3 million... Еще vehicles in total should be modified. That was the commitment made by the automobile industry today.» The companies have also committed to providing funds towards sustainable, cleaner urban transport, as well as incentives for car owners to replace unsustainable old models with newer ones. During the summit, Greenpeace protested the actions of the diesel car manufacturers by hanging a banner from the roof of the Transport Ministry, where the meeting was underway, which read «Willkommen in Fort NOx» (Welcome to Fort NOx).
