Police, the fire brigade and locals gathered around the site of a multi-story building collapse in central Dusseldorf on Tuesday, where rescue workers recovered the body of a construction worker, and another remains missing.
The building, which was under construction, collapsed yesterday and leaves the whole building complex at risk of a further collapse.
According to reports the building in question, as well as the adjacent building to the back yard, were in the process of being completely renovated before the collapse. Reports also indicate that the construction permit for the fallen building had been granted on the day of its collapse, with police calling into question if work had been carried out there that was not yet approved.
As of Tuesday, the cause of the collapse remains unclear, but inhabitants of adjacent buildings have been temporarily evacuated while investigations continue.
