Germany: Muenster memorial service honours van attack victims

Hundreds of people attended a church memorial service in the St. Paulus Dom in Muenster on Sunday, one day after a deadly attack which left two dead and a further 20 injured. Locals expressed their condolences for those affected and their feelings of shock following the incident. «I think it is very surreal, strange. I was just there. I cannot say anything or find words to describe [what I feel... Еще]. What is important to me is to be here, to pray for the victims and their relatives», said resident Jens. They also spoke of resilience, showing the compassion and unity of their community. «I think the residents of the city are able to deal with such situations. We saw it yesterday, after this rampage, that people were committed and stood together. And I hope that the joy of life that characterises this city won't be affected and that it remains,» said Muenster local Wilhelm Bach before the service. The attack took place in the old town of Muenster, where a man driving a van rammed into a crowd of people sitting outside a restaurant. The perpetrator, who was identified by police as Jens R., died by shooting himself at the scene.
