German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated she will not interfere in the process of finding a new сhairperson for the CDU, while speaking to the press alongside Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin in Berlin on Wednesday.
«I want to highlight it — that I will not interfere in the question of who will lead CDU in the future or who will be the candidate for the post of the chancellor. My experience... Еще — one of historical nature — is that predecessors should not interfere with this process. And I stick to that,» Merkel said.
Merkel also highlighted that none of the coalition parties will work with AfD.
When asked whether she is worried about staff related problems within the CDU in light of the upcoming German EU Council chairmanship, Marin stated that she is confident that Germany will keep up to its standards.
“Germany is very experienced and is used to work towards solutions and therefore I believe and I am confident that Germany will manage the situation well and that the chairmanship of the European Council will go well, too. I think no matter the situation, Germany will do a good job in chairing the European Council,” Marin stated.
