German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Social Democratic Party (SPD) leader Martin Schulz and CSU head Horst Seehofer were among those arriving for the last round of exploratory talks between Merkel’s CDU and Schulz’s SPD in Berlin on Thursday, in their attempt to form a government. Speaking to the press, Schulz and Merkel stated that progress has been made but agreed that there are still 'big... Еще obstacles' to overcome before forming a functioning coalition government. The event was attended by a dozen pro-EU protesters urging Merkel and the coalition to follow French President Emmanuel Macron's lead. Since the collapse of the so-called Jamaica coalition talks, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has thus far been unable to persuade the SPD to enter into another grand coalition. The growing political instability had raised the possibility of fresh elections or a minority government.
