Germany: Merkel’s ‘day of deep reflection’ as coalition talks collapse

German Chancellor Angela Merkel promised to maintain stability on Monday after the Free Democratic Party (FDP) pulled out of coalition talks to form a new government. Merkel said she would brief the country’s president Frank-Walter Steinmeier later in the day. He has the power to call a snap fresh election. Merkel stated that the parties «could have reached an agreement» despite differences... Еще in views but «couldn’t find any solution today.» FDP leader Christian Lindner was, however, less optimistic claiming that there was no «basis of trust» with Merkel's conservative Christian Democratic Union, the Christian Social Union and the Greens.
