Germany: Merkel pledges funds to tackle air pollution

German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced an increase in funding for measures to deal with air pollution after taking part in a so-called 'Diesel Summit' with city and state representatives from across Germany in Berlin on Monday. Merkel said that the funding for the 'Cleaner Air' programme, that is set to run from 2017 until 2020 will be increased by half a billion euros, and also announced... Еще another «€432 million to support the hardware retrofitting of smaller goods vehicles.» The 'Cleaner Air' programme includes a range of measures intended to improve municipal air quality such as funding for the electrification of urban transport and for retrofitting diesel bus exhausts. Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer explained that efforts to standardise hardware retrofits for existing diesel cars are still a ways off but that the aim was to «make them ready this year.»
