Locals appeared to greet German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Minister President of Bavaria Markus Soder with a mixture of friendliness and hostility as they arrived at Prien am Chiemsee on Tuesday.
The two politicians disembarked their boat and walked along a path, where they were greeted with a mixture of boos and «I love yous» as they passed by.
Some of the protesters were there to express their discontent with the government's restrictions imposed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A protester, Daniela, said that she and other mothers believe the COVID restrictions are «frightening for a lot of children» and «very bad and also psychologically stressful.»
Several dozen police officers were gathered in the vicinity as protesters held banners with slogans such as 'freedom instead of socialism.'
Merkel and Soder were meeting to discuss the German presidency of the EU Council and continued COVID strategies.
