German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that «an escalation of rhetoric will not contribute to a solution» of the tensions between the US and North Korea during a Berlin press conference, Friday.
Speaking alongside the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi, as well as the general director of the International Organization for Migration William Lacy Swing, Merkel explained that... Еще she does «not see a military solution to this conflict.» Instead, she said she would rather see «continuous work» and a «very tight cooperation with the affected countries,» namely US, China, South Korea and Japan.
The chancellor stressed that Germany will be «intensively involved in any non-military solutions,» and underlined once again that «an escalation of rhetoric [is] the wrong answer.»
Merkel then spoke about the migrant crisis, saying that the EU would invest up to 50 million euro into activities run by the International Organisation for Migration and the UNHCR to tackle the issue within Libya.
On August 28, French President Emanuel Macron will host a summit in Paris on migration, defence and economy. Among those who will attend are Merkel, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.
