A giant statue of Karl Marx, gifted by the Chinese government, arrived in his hometown of Trier on Tuesday. The statue will be officially unveiled to the public on May 5, when Marx will celebrate his 200th birthday. To mark the occasion, the Chinese government gifted the statue to Trier and after some debate, the city accepted the gift. The statue was made by Chinese artist Wu Weishan and is... Еще supposed to be 5.5 metres (18ft) tall. It will be placed on Simeonstift square in central Trier, within sight of the Marx family house and of Marx birth house. Marx was born in Trier in 1818 and lived there before leaving for university. Frequently exiled for his political views, he lived throughout Europe for decades before settling in London, where he died in 1883.
