French President Emmanuel Macron met with his German and Ukrainian counterparts Angela Merkel and Petro Poroshenko in Aachen on Thursday. The meeting was part of a ceremony held to award Macron the Charlemagne Prize. The leaders are expected to agree on a common position on peacekeeping forces in the Donbass region ahead of Merkel's journey to Sochi on May 18 and Macron's later, for further... Macron will receive the Charlemagne Prize later in the day, «in recognition of his vision of a new Europe». The Charlemagne Prize has been awarded on an annual basis since 1950 in the city of Aachen, the heart of Charlemagne's Holy Roman Empire. The prize recognises works done in the service of European unification.
