Germany: Maas, China FM defend free trade just before US tariff move

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi stressed the importance of 'multilateral' global free trade in Berlin on Thursday, moments before the United States announced restrictions on imports from its allies. Washington has put tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from the European Union, Canada and Mexico, prompting a response from Brussels. «China and Germany... Еще are both supporters of a multipolar world. We both want to maintain the liberal world trade system. It is not in China's interest that the European member states are drifting apart. We don't want to divide Europe,» Wang said. For his part, Mass was asked about the hoaxed murder of Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko, to which he answered: «Obviously this raises a lot of questions and honestly said, the information I have so far is not adequate. I do expect, when I am in Kiev tonight, that I will get the necessary information to make up my own opinion on this.»
