Some 1,000 people lined up for hours outside the WECO's factory outlet in Eitorf on Saturday, to snap up fireworks from the German pyrotechnics manufacturer's annual sale.
«The first people were already here at 5.30 the day before, so more than 24 hours ahead,» said Stephan Kritzler, deputy spokesperson for WECO.
Firework enthusiasts came prepared for the wait in the cold, with fires, food and... Еще drinks.
«We actually started preparing eight hours ahead of it, doing shopping, making sandwiches, buying a lot of meat, and we even bought a new barbecue,» shared Christoph, one of the buyers.
For Sven, the wait is «worth it.»
«When you look into the box, there is enough in it and it's worth the money,» he said.
The sale started at 5.51am, with packages selling between €30 ($34) and €50 ($56), with no more than three boxes sold to each person.
Fireworks play a large part in Silvester celebrations in Germany, but despite their popularity, a recent poll has found that 57 per cent of the population is in favour of banning them, due to environmental and safety concerns.
