German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier welcomed leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Angela Merkel, leader of its Bavarian sister party the Christian Social Union (CSU) Horst Seehofer, and leader of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) Martin Schulz, to Bellevue Palace in Berlin on Thursday, for talks on forming a possible coalition. The talks lasted two hours and ended late on... Еще Thursday evening. The recent meeting is expected to result in a fresh round of negotiations between Merkel and Schulz, however no comment from either side has yet been made. During the talks, a small environmental protest was staged outside the palace. Protesters demanded the resignation of the German Agriculture Minister Christian Schmidt. Earlier he voted in favour, on the EU level, of extending the use of controversial weedkiller glyphosate for another five years, in breach of government instructions.
