Germany: Lawyers ask for former SS guard's acquittal over 5,230 counts of accessory to murder

Lawyers of the former Nazi concentration camp guard Bruno D. asked for their client's acquittal as the trial resumed at the regional court in Hamburg on Monday. The defendant, 93-year-old Bruno D., was seen entering the courtroom on a wheelchair, covering his face with a folder. He is facing 5,230 counts of accessory to murder relating to his time as a guard at the Stutthof concentration camp, near Gdansk, when he was aged 17-18. The defendant's lawyer, Stefan Waterkamp, previously said his client does not find his 2019 indictment «understandable», after giving a statement on the matter to the police in 1982.
