Austrian OVP party leader and former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz arrived at the CDU headquarters in Berlin on Thursday to discuss German-Austrian relations and the latest developments in the candidacy for the EU Commission presidency with CDU Party leader Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer.
During a joint press conference both leaders expressed their support for the new candidate of the European People's... Еще Party, current German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen.
Kurz said they were delighted that the candidate of the Party of European Socialists' Frans Timmermans wasn't elected president of the EU commission, claiming that a shift to the left in Europe would have been harmful.
Kramp-Karrenbauer stressed that any destructive attitude of the German Social Democrats towards von der Leyen would might lead to a constitutional crisis in Europe.
Before meeting with Kramp-Karrenbauer, Kurz attended a private audience with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Chancellery in Berlin.
