Germany: Kidnapping attempt suspect released as 'no conditions met for arrest' — police

Berlin police spokesperson Sara Dieng told Ruptly on Tuesday the suspect in a recent kidnapping attempt was released as 'at the moment of the detention the conditions for an arrest warrant were not met.' «On the evening of 18 June, according to the current investigation, a man went to Boxhagener Platz, where he spoke to a child, urging the child to go with him. He then took the child on his shoulders and walked away with her from the playground,» said Dieng. Witnesses held the man until police arrived while filming the incident. «The colleagues on site could not find indications that the man had injured another person or himself, so that by law of hazard prevention he could not be kept in custody,» added the spokesperson. Dieng said parents should not worry that their children could increasingly become victims of offences stressing that it was an isolated case.
