The principal spokesperson for the German government Steffen Seibert spoke to the press in Berlin, on Friday, about the terrorist attack that took place in Barcelona on Thursday afternoon.
Seibert deemed the incident, where a driver in a white van ploughed through a crowd in the touristic Las Ramblas street, in the Spanish city, as an attack on many, not just Barcelonans. He said, “I say... Еще 'attacked us' because on a day of sorrow we feel so close the people in Barcelona, in Catalonia, in all of Spain. Because we think of Manchester and London, of Brussels, Paris, Nice, of course of Berlin and latest Hamburg, of Stockholm, Istanbul, St. Petersburg and many more attacks of this kind in Africa and in Asia.»
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Martin Schaefer, said he couldn’t confirm whether there were German nationals among the deceased but also stated that the ministry estimates 13 Germans were injured in the attack.
