German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer gave his backing to the country's law enforcement personnel, speaking on the final day of the Erfurt regional interior ministers conference on Friday.
«We are now looking at more punishments in cases of attacks against the police,» said Seehofer.
«According to the police criminal statistics, there are two real problems. These are child abuse, child pornography, followed by increasing violence against police officers. And we need to start a debate in Germany, to address the point that people cannot do these things,» he stated.
At the presser, the Minister of the Interior and Sports of Lower Saxony Boris Pistorious also called for people to put their trust in the police, adding that in his opinion the German police is «one of the best police in the world.»
