Germany: «Individual cases» of racism must be dealt with objectively — Thuringia interior minister

Thuringia's Interior Minister Georg Maier said «individual cases» of racism in the police force must be dealt with, at the Interior Minister Conference, in Berlin, on Wednesday, adding «to say there is structural racism, or that there is no racism, that is not helpful.» The German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer criticized the new Berlin Anti-Discrimination Act saying, «We owe it to our police officers; you have often heard the sentence from me. We must protect those who protect us.» According to reports he stated he no longer wants to send federal police officers to the capital for operations saying, «I'll talk to Berlin Senator Geisel about it next week.» The fight against child pornography was also on the agenda at the conference. The Minister of the Interior of Lower Saxony Boris Pistorius said the possession of child pornography material would have to be punished much more severely, saying, «If there is no demand, customers, people who buy these pictures, than there is no market of this size, then the videos and pictures will not be produced at this volume.» Outside the conference protesters gathered calling for the admission of refugees from European and non-European refugee camps.
