Germany: 'If you cut the rope, a person falls' — Activists climb trees to block highway construction

Activists occupied the northern part of Dannenrod Forest near Homberg, on Wednesday, climbing trees, building treehouses, and barricades in an attempt to block the A49 motorway construction, which will clear roughly 85 hectares of the forest. 'If you cut the rope, a person falls,' was written on a wooden sign near a pile of tree trunks blocking the road. As police troops arrived on-site and under operation 'clear the access roads,' they took at least 17 activists into custody, removing some of them from the trees. Meanwhile, an excavator was used to collect the wood blocking access roads.
