Germany: Hundreds protest Thuringia election scandal in Berlin

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Berlin on Saturday to call for the resignation of Thuringia Minister-President Thomas Kemmerich and to condemn his Free Democratic Party (FDP), as well as the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), for voting along with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party to place him in office on Wednesday. The demonstration took pace at the Platz der Republik, between... Еще the German parliament and the offices of the Chancellor, and saw protesters waving antifascist flags and singing chants against the AfD. Later on Wednesday Kemmerich announced his resignation with immediate effect and said that we would return all the money he was set to receive due to becoming Minister-President. Thuringia held its state election in October last year. While Die Linke won the highest share of the votes with 31 per cent, the AfD came second with 23.4 per cent, with the FPD barely clearing the 5 percent hurdle required to entire the regional parliament.
