Germany: Hundreds protest eviction of school building hosting refugees in Berlin

Hundreds of people gathered at Oranienplatz in Berlin on Saturday, to protest against the future eviction of a school that hosts 24 refugees since 8 December 2012, when the building was occupied. The eviction of the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Schule at Ohlauer Street, is due to take place on January 11, 2018. Many inhabitants of the school demonstrated, marching through the streets of Berlin's Kreuzberg... Еще district together with the 'Welcome refugees' movement. It is not the first time the police has tried to evict the occupied building. In 2014, the district around the school became the center of the city's conflict between authorities and refugees. At that time, around 40 refugees holed up on the roof of the school while police blocked all the area around. Some of the refugees were also arrested. «What can we do? — Alnour, who has been living in the occupied school said — Authorities are trying to isolate us, security at the entrance don't let us live. We will fight until the end, but we don't have other places to go.»
