Germany: Herxheim council votes to keep ‘Hitler bell’ chiming

The local council of Herxheim am Berg in Rhineland-Palatinate voted in favour of keeping the controversial 'Hitler Bell' on Monday. The other possibility put forward was donating it to a museum. The vote followed months of national and international controversy over the clock tower bell which bears the inscription ''Everything is for the Fatherland' along with Adolf Hitler's name and a... Еще Swastika. The town's mayor Georg Welker said the bell provided a useful starting point when discussing the horrors of the Nazi era with young people in the town.
