Germany: Govt. spokesperson announces arrest of two Germans in Turkey on «political grounds»

The German government held a press conference on the arrest of two more German nationals in Turkey, on Friday, the two are being held for “political reasons” and are yet to be granted access to the German consul in Turkey. Deputy spokesperson of the German Foreign Ministry, Maria Adebahr, told the press conference that Germany’s “general consulate in Izmir was informed by non-governmental... Еще sources about the arrests of both these people” which was later confirmed by Antalya’s airport police. The German consulate has thus far been unable to seek contact with the arrested, but is continuing “putting a lot of pressure on ensuring this (telephone contact with the detained)” she added. The arrests come three days after German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, requested that Turkey releases German citizens detained, one of which is the high-profile detainment of Denis Yuecel, a German-Turkish journalist who has been detained for 200 days so far under charges of aiding “terror propaganda”.
