A former nurse who murdered 85 patients at the clinic and hospital where he worked, was sentenced to life in prison by a German court in Oldenburg on Thursday.
Niels Hogel reportedly carried out the murders between 1999 and 2005 when he was finally caught by colleagues at Delmenhorst hospital.
Hogel frequently gave patients drugs to cause cardiac arrest so that he could win praise and attention... Еще for resuscitating them, however there were often complications which resulted in deaths.
Hogel's sentence is the most severe available under German law and precludes the usual option of the possibility of applying for parole after serving 15 years.
He is already serving a ife sentence due to previous murder convictions and while police suspect that Germany's most prolific peacetime serial killer may have in fact killed around 200 patients, but can't be certain due to many of his victims being cremated without autopsies.
