Germany: Foreign Minister Maas meets Albanian counterpart in Berlin

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas met with his Albanian counterpart Ditmir Bushati in Berlin on Monday. Following their meeting, the two diplomats held a joint press conference, where at the top of their discussion agenda was Albania's application to become an EU member state. Bushati said, «We believe that Germany's clear and strategic attitude towards all the countries in the region... Еще, starting of course from the country which we represent — Albania —, is of big value in guaranteeing the stability above all in the region, but also the well-being and the prosperity, because the reforms we are discussing apart from those of the rule of law and economy, create a better climate for business, for investors. And it contributes to our countries to become normal neighbours who address their problems from a standpoint of European values.» Maas was also questioned on a recent announcement from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that he will host talks in Istanbul, in September, regarding the ongoing conflict in Syria. Maas commented that these talks were welcome, but also said, «What is important is that we can make progress there and at the end of this procedure is implemented under the umbrella of the United Nations, which is the most important thing at the moment.»
