Germany: FM reaffirms support for Afghan peace process

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas reaffirmed his support for the German presence in Afghanistan and urged participants in the peace process with the Taliban not to allow years of hard-won progress in human rights to be rolled back, during a joint press conference with Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani in Berlin on Friday. The Afghan Foreign Minister addressed the February extension of the Germany’s military participation in the country under the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission, praising the role of German forces as being of “crucial importance” to achieving a sustainable political solution in the country.
