Germany: Far-right ‘terrorists’ jailed for bomb attacks on refugees and politicians

Eight members of the right-wing organization Gruppe Freital were sentenced to four to ten years in prison by the Dresden Higher Regional Court after being accused of attempted murder and bomb attacks on refugee shelters and politicians. The group's leaders Timo Schulz and Patrick Festing were sentenced to 10 and nine-and-a-half years in prison respectively. The other six received custodial terms... Еще of between four and eight-and-a-half years. «I think it is clear that the court wants to send a clear message to the outside, not only that attempted murder is punished, but also the creation of such a group has been punished» said Accessory Prosecutor Kristin Pietrzyk. The eight accused, seven men and one woman, were found guilty of five attacks with explosives between July and November 2015. Two attacks were on Freital refugee homes, two in an office, one car attack linked to Die Linke political party politicians, and one in a residential area of Dresden. The Gruppe Freital is named after the members' hometown in Saxony, and it is a bastion of support for far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD).
