Germany: 'Everything must be done to prevent violence' — Merkel on Hong Kong unrest

German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for a peaceful solution to the unrest in Hong Kong, at a press conference alongside Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda in Berlin on Wednesday. Merkel stressed that «everything must be done to prevent violence and to find possibilities for a solution within the framework of dialogue.» Commenting on Washington's threats to relocate its troops from Germany... Еще to Poland, Merkel noted that «there are also good reasons for the bases to be located in Germany, and at the same time we know that we must continue our efforts to make our armed forces stronger.» Last week, the US warned that it might withdraw some of its troops stationed in Germany if Berlin continues to fall short of NATO's military spending target of two percent of GDP.
