Germany: EU-Russia-Ukraine gas talks to continue in September — Novak

Russia and Ukraine have agreed to continue EU-backed gas talks, Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak stated at a press conference in Berlin on Monday, following a trilateral meeting with Kiev and the European Commission's representatives. «We have now a joint agreement that today's meeting was not one-off exercise and that we will continue in the autumn,» Novak said. The Russian Minister... Еще of Energy also expressed that starting September, groups of «high level experts» from all sides would meet «every six to eight weeks» in order to prepare the ground for a new gas transit deal which would replace the current contract that expires at the end of 2019. According to Novak, they will focus on the three core issues: the assessment of the new European gas needs, the work of the Operator of the Gas Transmission System of Ukraine (OGTSU), and the impact of the European energy rules, which Novak said are «being transposed into the Ukrainian legislation» on the future transit contract, including tariff setting mechanisms.
