Germany: 'Does not make sense' — Juncker following May's Brexit speech

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker deemed Brexit as the «opposite of the future of Europe,» as he spoke in Hamburg on Friday, following a speech by British Prime Minister Theresa May earlier in the day. «I very much regret this step by the British, but I never dwell on it in my speeches for too long, despite being sad about it, because it does not make sense to speak about the... Еще past, [UK Prime Minister] Theresa May did that today,» Juncker said. The European Commission President also advised EU member states to further invest in defence politics, affirming that «the sum of the European budgets is equal to half of the US defence budget. So you would think that if we spend half of what the US is spending, we should also be half as effective, but we are only 15 percent as effective as the US, because we talk big, but we play small when it comes to Europe.» Juncker also responded to US President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 25% tariff on steel and 10% on aluminium imports, saying: «Europe has to fight back against this, and we will fight back against this. So now we will also impose import tariffs. This is basically a stupid process, the fact that we have to do this. But we have to do it. We are now imposing tariffs on motorcycles, Harley Davidson, on bluejeans, Levis, on Bourbon.»
