The Deutsche Oper Berlin [German opera Berlin] held a rehearsal for their upcoming open air performance of Richard Wagner's 'Rheingold' on Tuesday.
Amid coronavirus restrictions and as opera houses remain closed until the end of July 2020, the performance will take on the parking deck of the opera with a reduced orchestra.
Director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Dietmar Schwarz, said that the 800 tickets for this performance sold out within 12 minutes.
«Now here, we only have a small orchestra, also because of the distance rules, and we are quite satisfied with the sound, let's hope it's the same for the audience,'' he stated.
Schwarz explained that the coronavirus pandemic has been «the biggest challenge» of his career.
«[The new season] will start slowly, unfortunately there is not a specific day, where we can say that's the day we will play 'Nabuko' with the whole choir again, instead we are going into the summer break, which means we have to prepare the season for August and September now,'' said the director, before adding that they are «treading carefully.»
The «Rheingold» opera will be performed on June 12.
