A monument to Otto von Bismarck, the first Chancellor of the German Empire, in Berlin was vandalised with graffiti, as footage filmed on Friday shows.
Inscriptions «Decolonise Berlin» and «Decolonise» in German were sprayed on the base of the monument by Reinhold Begas.
Vandals also splashed red and yellow paint on the statues of the kneeling Atlas, Sibyl and Germania surrounding Bismarck's figure. Flyers with the hashtag #DecolonizeBerlin were also left at the site.
Otto von Bismarck is considered by some Germans not only a key player in the unification of the country in the 19th century, but as the pioneer of its colonialism.
Demonstrations against the restoration of the monument to the «Iron Chancellor» took place in Hamburg at the end of June.
Rights groups have also been pushing for changing the streets and subway stations' names, with colonial or racist background across Germany.
