A group of climate activists, including members of Extinction Rebellion, gathered outside the headquarters of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in Berlin on Wednesday, to protest against the coal exit law.
Protesters were blocking the road outside the SPD office building, urging the party, which is a part of the ruling coalition, to vote against the draft.
«They are responsible for the damages they are doing to our climate, to our planet, so we are holding them responsible today,» a protester said.
Last week, the German government approved a draft law to phase out hard coal-fired power stations by 2038.
The protest came ahead of the final debates of the draft law in the Bundestag and subsequently in the federal council — the Bundesrat — on Friday.
